To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Women's and Gender Studies program will host a showing of the film, "Fixed: The Science/Fiction of Human Enhancement," on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m., in McEwen Hall Room 209.
Told primarily through the perspectives of five people with disabilities -- a scientist, journalist, disabilities justice educator, bionics engineer and exoskeleton test pilot, -- “Fixed” takes a close look at the implications of emerging human enhancement technologies for the future of humanity.
The film, which had its public television premiere in July, was named “Best of the Festival” at the Superfest International Disability Film Festival and earned the Harris Jury Prize for Best Film at ReelAbilities Film Festival.
The screening is free and open to the public. Dr. Katrinie Fulcher-Rood of the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences will lead a discussion after the film.
