Matthew Fountain, professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, will deliver the talk “RNA as a target for fighting Parkinson's and Huntington's Disease" at the Friday, March 24, meeting of the campus chapter of Sigma Xi.
The talk will cover his current research in the design of potential therapeutics for Huntington's and Parkinson's disease. The three dimensional structure of RNA targets will be described and the role they play in these diseases. In addition, structures of these RNAs with bound small molecules will be presented with future plans for the development of potential therapeutic drugs.
Dr. Fountain’s address will be held at noon in the Major Alice Sam Conference Room, located in the third floor of the Science Center, and is free and open to the public.
Sigma Xi is the international scientific research honor society.
