A personal-best and fourth-place finish by Merlin Joseph Jr. (Binghamton) highlighted the Fredonia runners' day Saturday at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic.

Joseph finished fourth in the 800 meters in 1:56.60. It was one of four personal-best by the Blue Devils. The others were by Ethan Francis (Dunkirk) in the 1,500 meters, Kyle Egan (Monroe) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and third-place finisher Kyle Brown (Hamburg, N.Y.) in the hammer throw.

Other top-five finishers were Mitchel Paciga (Jeffersonville), second in the high jump; Damone Brown (Haverstraw, N.Y.), second in the shot put; and Chase Towse (East Northport), fifth in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Blue Devils move on to the SUNYAC championship meet Friday and Saturday at SUNY Cortland.
