The front of the Lanford House on the Fredonia campus has been “painted” green in recognition of April as Earth Month with the installation of green LED lighting.
Seeking ways to raise awareness of its Earth Month campaign, Director of Facilities Services Kevin Cloos hatched the idea of illuminating the home of the Fredonia president with green after reading about a plan to actually repaint the White House green in honor of Earth Month.
Instead of real paint, two green LED lights bathe the front of the Central Avenue landmark each evening, from dusk to midnight. The lighting was obtained at no cost from ProQuip International, a tenant in the Fredonia Technology Incubator, and installed in existing ground-level fixtures.
Mr. Cloos, a member of Fredonia’s Sustainability Committee and co-chair of its Earth Month campaign, indicated that the university has been working with ProQuip on other projects that would use energy-efficient LED lights to illuminate parts of the campus. ProQuip is an engineering company that provides LED lighting and solar LED technology.
Elsewhere on campus, green CFL bulbs have been placed in the walkway light fixtures around the clocktower at Symphony Circle and adjacent to the Williams Center bus stop. Like the Lanford House lighting, these green lights will be utilized throughout April.
