Fredonia’s newly formed Title IX and Sexual Violence Task Force will be implementing the “It’s on Us” campaign on April 14, 15 and 16 in the McEwen Hall Lobby from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The national campaign supported by corporate organizations in a variety of different fields strives to raise awareness and put an end to sexual assault on college campuses. It is part of the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault first launched by President Barack Obama back in 2014.
Students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to take the pledge and create a photo or video message to support their support in ending sexual violence at Fredonia.
“It's On Us” asks everyone to make a personal commitment to be part of the solution to campus sexual assault. The campaign seeks to engage college students and all members of campus communities in preventing sexual assault.
Sweeping through a multitude of both private and public college institutions nationwide, over 250 college campuses have adopted the campaign and have taken the “It’s On Us” pledge to promise the following things:
• To recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.
• To identify situations in which sexual assault may occur.
• To intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.
• To create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.
“It’s on Us” is sponsored by the Title IX and Sexual Violence Task Force, in collaboration with Student Counseling Services; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Student Affairs, Pride Alliance, the Women’s Student Union and Students Teaching Equals Positive Sexuality(S.T.E.P.S).
