Students, faculty and staff will give back with a week-long effort of community service endeavors on Nov. 6 to 12. Fredonia’s third annual Days of Service is a campus tradition that combines volunteer efforts and service-learning projects to help the campus community engage with and improve the village and other surrounding areas.
In the past, over 500 students, faculty and staff have participated in the week of giving. Raking leaves, mulching trees, painting, cleaning, serving meals, removing waste, collecting nonperishables for local food pantries and assisting local youth and senior citizens are among the vast array of volunteer opportunities they have taken part in and will continue to do this year.
Once again, the Days of Service week will feature hallmark volunteer initiatives like the Operation Breakfast Rescue food drive and the 10th annual Fall Sweep, where volunteers go out into the surrounding community to rake residents’ lawns.
Among the many volunteer projects to join, blood and food donation options will be available for those unable to contribute to larger jobs as an easy way for all to get involved and help those in need.
The third annual Days of Service is organized by the Office of Volunteer and Community Service. The week is co-chaired by Joyce Harvard Smith, coordinator of Volunteer and Community Service and Erin Mroczka, director of First Year and Transition Programs.
