Thanks to a partnership and support from AT&T, Fredonia is providing a free enrichment program in the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for high school students throughout Chautauqua County.

Coordinated by Fredonia’s Division of Engagement and Economic Development, the STEM Exploration Program will provide training using educational content from Code.org, Coursera and other sources. Students will have the opportunity to engage in interesting topics in biology, chemistry, physics, geosciences, mathematics and technology through fun and immersive activities.

Students will also have the opportunity to tour the university and learn about various careers. The program, offered at no charge to students, will be provided by Fredonia faculty and staff.

Goals of the program are to encourage students to continue their education beyond high school and acquire technical skills, while also learning about educational opportunities offered at Fredonia.

The program will last three weeks, with sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon, beginning Feb. 21 and continuing through March 11, in Fenton Hall and other locations on campus. Enrollment is limited to 25 students. A parent or guardian is responsible for student drop off and pick up. Students from other counties can also be accepted subject to seat availability. All attendees will receive a free backpack.

Registration forms, available at goo.gl/7BQWmb, are to be completed by a parent or guardian and sent to: Dr. Reneta Barneva; AT&T High School STEM Exploration Program; Applied Professional Studies; State University of New York at Fredonia; 280 Central Ave., Fredonia, NY, 14063. Accepted students will be notified by email. Forms are to be received by Tuesday, Feb. 14. Additional information is available from Barneva at barneva@fredonia.edu.
