An open house offering information on two new courses that are parts of a new Advanced Certificate in Professional Writing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Fenton Hall Room 127 (English Reading Room).
Designed by Fredonia’s Department of English, the new graduate-level courses meet once a week and are geared to working professionals and non-traditional students, as well as current graduate students, who want to gain new writing skills, brush up on current skills and consider the varied dimensions of professional writing.
The Advanced Certificate program includes four graduate-level writing seminars, a 3-credit internship (ENG 694) and E-portfolio (ENG 501) for a total of 16 credits. The department offered the first of the new courses in the fall 2015 semester: Ethics of Writing (ENGL 521) and Art of Grammar (ENGL 524).
Two courses –Writing for Digital Media (ENGL 522) and Grantwriting (ENGL 523) – will be offered in the Spring 2016 term. ENG 522, taught by Dr. Heather McEntarfer, will meet Thursdays, 5 to 7:20 p.m., beginning Jan. 21. ENG 523, taught by Dr. Christina Jarvis, will meet Tuesdays, 5 to 7:20 p.m., starting Jan. 26.
Plans are to offer two courses, and the opportunity to complete an internship, each semester. Courses can also be applied towards the Master of Arts degree in English, or other graduate programs, at Fredonia.
