HAIL! Fredonia Records, Fredonia’s student-run record label, is partnering with WhyHunger, a global organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty. Fredonia’s “Ladies First” — which includes 10,000 Maniacs’ vocalist/violinist Mary Ramsey, ’95, and Savannah King, ’14, who recently began touring with 10,000 Maniacs as a support musician — has released its own rendition of the classic Badfinger hit, “Sweet Tuesday Morning.”
Ramsey and King have joined forces with Joey Molland, the last surviving member of Badfinger, to produce and release this single exclusively on iTunes on March 31.
Ladies First is a not-for-profit musician collective that performs to raise awareness for various charitable organizations. Ladies First is honored to join the ranks of artists such as Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Carlos Santana who have worked with WhyHunger in its fight against hunger and poverty.
WhyHunger connects people to nutritious, affordable food and supports grassroots solutions that inspire self-reliance and community empowerment. It is working to transform the charitable response to hunger in the U.S. into a more equitable and inclusive social justice movement that recognizes nutritious food as a human right.
This initiative is inspired in part by the recent call by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has asked SUNY campuses to reach out to local communities and play a key role in economic development and community engagement / empowerment.
In addition, to the release of the single, Fredonia’s Music Industry program will announce two food drives: one driven by the Music Industry Club, and the second to be held at The Sportsmen’s Tavern in Buffalo, N.Y., in April.
