Fredonia has named Cory Bezek, a veteran of its Admissions team, as its new Director of Admissions following a nationwide search to fill the key position.

“We are delighted that Cory will be staying at Fredonia. These are challenging times in Admissions, and Cory and the Admissions staff will be working hard to help the campus achieve our enrollment goals,” said Vice President for Student Affairs David Herman.

Mr. Bezek, who received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Fredonia in 2002, has advanced through the ranks in Admissions after being hired as a counselor in 2007. He served as assistant director and associate director before becoming interim director in August 2014.

During the temporary appointment, Bezek directed the Office of Undergraduate Admissions recruitment plan, which outlined 55 new initiatives for first year and transfer recruitment, and supervised a professional staff of 11, in addition to taking on numerous projects and responsibilities.

Other positions held by Bezek at Fredonia, beginning in 2005, include the acting assistant vice president for Student Affairs, as well as a residence director with the Office of Residence Life. Prior to returning to Fredonia, Bezek served as a project assistant with the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Post-secondary Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, after earning a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, with a concentration in College Student Personnel, from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, in Nashville, Tenn.

Currently, Bezek is a doctoral candidate, also in Higher Education Admission, at the University at Buffalo. He also recently co-authored his first book, “College Counseling for Admissions Professionals: Improving Access and Retention.”

Bezek belongs to the State University of New York Enrollment Management Advisory Council, the State University of New York College Admissions Professionals, where he served as president-elect, president and past president, and is also a member of the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling and the Association for the Study of Higher Education.

Bezek lives in the village of Fredonia with his wife, Julie (Hoen), ’02, and their daughter, Claire.
