Commencement is on Saturday, May 15 in two ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the Steele Hall arena on the SUNY Fredonia campus; the ice rink in Steele Hall is the video venue.

Bachelor’s, master’s and advanced certificate recipients are combined in the two ceremonies, which individually recognize graduates from August and December 2009 and January 2010 (who did not participate in a previous ceremony) and candidates for graduation for May and August 2010.

Local television coverage of Commencement 2010 at the SUNY Fredonia will begin at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.,  with coverage of both ceremonies combining undergraduate and master’s degree and advanced certificate graduates.

Viewers can watch the broadcast on Time Warner Cable Channel 5 in Fredonia, Cassadaga, Brocton and Stockton, and Time Warner Cable Channel 19 in Dunkirk, Silver Creek, Forestville and Hanover.

The keynote speaker for both ceremonies is Dr. John Baust, a SUNY Fredonia alumnus and professor of Biological Sciences and director of the Institute for Biomedical Technology at Binghamton University.

Senior Class President Mary E. Holland will speak at both ceremonies, and the Lanford Presidential Prize from the Oscar and Esther Lanford Endowment of the Fredonia College Foundation will be awarded to John R. Gradel of Endicott, N.Y., during the morning ceremony, and to Julie M. Graham of Elmira, N.Y., at the afternoon ceremony. Mr. Gradel is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies Adolescence Education with a double major in History, Summa Cum Laude. Ms. Graham is graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, Summa Cum Laude.

Music groups performing include the Fredonia Wind Ensemble and Fredonia Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Paula Holcomb, and the Fredonia College Choir, under the direction of Dr. Gerald Gray.
