Individual awards were presented and all members of the Custodial Services department at the Fredonia were honored at the 14th Custodial Services Awards Recognition Luncheon on Jan. 14 at the Horizon Room in the Williams Center.

The event, held every January, gives the university the opportunity to recognize individual winners of Custodial Safety Incentive Awards as well as their colleagues for their hard work and dedication.

Liz Praetorius, vice president for Finance and Administration, said the gathering enables the university to identify individual award winners and to say thank you to all Custodial Services employees for their efforts that insure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of the campus. More than 85 people attended the event that included a buffet prepared by the Faculty Student Association.

Individual awards, respective building assignments and recipients included:

Proper Chemical Labeling, Alumni Hall – Valerie Bertges, Darlene Burchett and Sonia Kulian;

Proper Fluorescent Lamp Storage, Technology Incubator – Sara Jagoda;

No Propped/Chocked Doors, Reed Library – Richard Gugino, Brenda Lemanski, Kitty Pencek and Jose Rosario.

Award recipients are selected based on results of semi-annual building inspections conducted by Mark Delcamp, assistant director of Custodial Services; Anne Podolak, director of Environmental Health and Safety; Kevin Cloos, director of Facilities Services; Kathy Forster, director of Residence Life; residence directors or building safety coordinators and janitors and their supervisors. Award certificates and $25 gift certificates were presented to all recipients.

Past award winners attending the luncheon were also recognized. More than a dozen door prizes of Fredonia gear were also given away.
