Custodial Services staff members were honored and individual awards presented at the 16th Custodial Services Awards Recognition Luncheon held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Horizon Room in the Williams Center.

Before the start of each semester, the university recognizes individual winners of Custodial Safety Incentive Awards, as well as their colleagues, for their hard work and dedication at a buffet luncheon prepared by the Faculty Student Association. More than 70 people attended the event.

Fredonia President Virginia Horvath praised the staff for its hard work and outstanding performance in carrying out duties that reflect highly upon the university. Numerous groups visiting the campus – including a Girl Scout troop that was on campus recently weekend – were impressed with how well the campus is maintained.

Dr. Horvath reported receiving praise, such as ’What a lovely campus this is,’ from visitors on numerous occasions. “The work that you do is critically important to our success,” she added.

Individual awards, recipients and their building locations included:

No Chocked Doors – Darlene Burchett, Nancy Castiglia and Kevin McCarthy – Nixon Hall.

Proper Lamp Storage – Robert Degolier, Jeff Jakse, Phil DiFrancisco, Elizabeth Goblirsch and Bryan Miller – Thompson Hall.

Proper Chemical Labeling – Cindy Weaver, Chuck Miller, Joseph Andrasik and Nicolas Polvino – University Commons.

Award recipients are selected based on results of semi-annual building inspections conducted by Mark Delcamp, assistant director of Custodial Services; Sarah Laurie, director of Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability; Kevin Cloos, director of Facilities Services; Tim Lillie, head janitor of Custodial Services; Kathy Forster, director of the Office of Residence Life; along with residence directors or building safety coordinators and janitors and their supervisors. Award certificates and $25 gift certificates were presented to all recipients.

Also recognized at the luncheon by President Horvath were retirees who had received the Outstanding Administrative Services Award for Custodial Service – David Renckens, Mary Abers, Vince Chillemi, Dan Pleszewski and Randy Goodemote – along with current employees who are also award recipients. They included: Mary Leckliter, Darlene Miller, Lee Szalkowski, Sue Smith, Gladys Lockett, Jorge Rosa, Susanne Valentine, Iris Rosa and Bob Miller.
