Fredonia Radio Systems will hold a remembrance ceremony for a former student colleague and friend during the 2011 Homecoming Weekend. The ceremony will honor Graham E. Andrus, a long-time member of the station who passed away while snorkeling in Seneca Lake, N.Y., this past August.
The ceremony for Andrus will be held Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the campus station. Family and friends, as well as current and former members of Fredonia Radio will gather at this event in order to celebrate the great memories and fun times that were shared with Andrus.
As part of the ceremony, the station’s talk studio will be dedicated to Andrus and renamed the “Graham Command.” In his honor, a painting above the talk studio entrance and a plaque inside of the talk studio will be unveiled. Following this, refreshments will be provided and guests are encouraged to share stories about Andrus and contribute to the scholarship fund that has been created in his name at the Foundation House.
“We could depend on him to be there for us, to spread himself way too thin but never complain, to see all of his projects and commitments through to completion, to stick to his guns and to love his friends,” said Bryan VanGelder, a former general manager of Fredonia Radio Systems.
Not only did Andrus fill the station with his charismatic personality and positive attitude, but he played a key role in establishing a sense of community among the “FRS family.” During his time at the station, he hosted a radio program called the “Asian Invasion,” worked within the engineering department, and contributed to the news team.
