As part of its April-long Earth Month activities, Fredonia held its annual electronics recycling day on Saturday, April 18 in the Park-and-Ride lot on the north end of the Fredonia campus. In partnership with New York State Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I–Olean), Time Warner Cable and e-recycler Sunnking Inc., 1,176 vehicles were unloaded which filled eight semi-trailers with pallets upon pallets of old, outdated electronics that otherwise may have been destined for a landfill.
It marks the highest number of vehicles to attend the event at Fredonia since the campus began the annual endeavor in 2008. In fact, it represents a more than 71 percent increase over its previous record, set in 2013. Campus officials credit the added communication efforts provided by this year’s partners, along with the ideal weather which the region enjoyed on Saturday, for the increase.
In addition to staff from the partner organizations, Fredonia volunteers included members of its Swimming and Diving team, Women’s Basketball team, Honors Program, Kappa Sigma fraternity, Environmental Communications class, and Division of Finance and Administration, among others.
