Fredonia for St. Jude President Meagan Allers addressed attendees of the Up til Dawn fund-raising event this past year. |
"Fredonia for St. Jude," an S.A. group which raises money for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, took first place in a national video competition showcasing the group's fund raising efforts on campus.
As a result, the group will be rewarded with 10 new Apple iMacs for use on campus, some of which will be made available to the campus at large. The video, created by SUNY Fredonia students Matt Cole and Bob Parasiliti, received 833 "likes" on Facebook, where all voting was conducted.

The announcement coincidentally was made on the day of the group's annual banquet, during which it presented a check for more than $15,000 to St. Jude representative Lisa Brady for total funds raised during the 2010-11 academic year. The money was raised through the group's annual Up til Dawn event, a benefit lacrosse game, its Text for a Cure campaign, Rock out for Cancer event, and other sponsorships.
Because the group generated over $10,000, it may send one representative to St. Jude's Collegiate Leadership Seminar, to be held July 29 to August 1 in Memphis, Tenn. There will be over 700 representatives and advisers from collegiate chapters across the nation. Students will learn from each other and see what other schools are doing to raise money to help fight cancer. They will also receive a tour of the St. Jude campus and meet some of the children of St. Jude. SUNY Fredonia's Ashley Bucholtz, a sophomore Business major, will represent Fredonia, along with Campus Adviser Jean Pendl.
The Fredonia for St. Jude E-board consists of Meagan Allers, Patrick Bettcher, Becka Bretl, Ashley Bucholtz, Colleen Clary, Kelly Collins, Matt Colucci, Megan Dash, Matt Digati, Andrea Lictus, Olivia Merisola, Cassie Partridge and adviser Jean Michielli-Pendl.
