Five Fredonia students participating as a team have earned a spot as one of the six finalists in the 2016 CFA Research Challenge of Western New York.

Team members include Katlynn Cole, Connor Barnes, Daniel Cecilia, Philip Lavin and team captain John Morgante. The group is advised by faculty member Dr. Taihyeup Yi. The final presentation competition is slated for Feb. 15 at SUNY Geneseo.

The team’s research report discussed Financial Institutions, Inc., a financial holding company for Five Star Bank. The other finalists in the CFA Research Challenge of Western New York include Canisius College, Cornell University, Geneseo, SUNY Oswego and Niagara University.

The CFA Research Challenge of Western New York offers students the opportunity to learn from industry leaders and compete with their peers. It is an annual education initiative meant to give hands-on experience, intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills which enhance the learning of the next generation of analysts.
