The Fredonia College Foundation is issuing a call to artists, crafters, designers to participate in the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) Keeper of the Dream fundraising event. All local, professional and amateur artists, 18 years of age and older, are invited to participate.
Two undecorated theatre masks, comedy and tragedy, will be provided to selected participants. Decorated, returned masks will be auctioned off at the DSA event on June 3, 2017. Each mask is approximately 8.5 by 7 inches. Finished works may consist of the masks alone, or the masks may be embedded in a larger piece of work (size limited to 2 feet and must be able to be moved safely by one person). Artists choose their medium.
All proceeds from the auction are earmarked for Fredonia’s Keeper of the Dream Scholarship and Leadership Endowment. For more information on the Keeper of the Dream Scholarship.
An initial artists’ concept design for the masks, artist biography sheet, and contact information is to be submitted by Friday, Oct. 7 to the attention of Teresa Adams at the Fredonia College Foundation, 272 Central Ave., Fredonia, NY 14063, or emailed to Teresa.adams@fredonia.edu. Artists are asked to be sure to include the type of art medium and dimensions within the proposal.
Selected artists will be notified when they can pick up the unpainted, paper maché masks at the Fredonia College Foundation. Please note quantities are limited. For those artists selected, finished works and updated biography sheets are to be submitted to the attention of Ms. Adams by Feb. 1, 2017. All work must be exhibit-ready to hang or display.
The artwork must be presented in a professional manner and the foundation’s Special Events Committee has the right to decline a concept design.
The completed masks and artist sheets will be displayed in several locations on the State University of New York at Fredonia campus and on the foundation’s website before being transferred to the Distinguished Service Award event venue on June 3, 2017. Once accepted by the foundation’s Special Events Committee, the masks will become the property of the Fredonia College Foundation for the purpose of being placed on display and auctioned at the fundraising event.
