To paraphrase Cee-lo Green, whether you're an Xbox, or more Atari, there's something for you this weekend at the first ever Game-a-thon. The action starts at 6 p.m. this Friday, April 1, in the Williams Center.

Created by Tau Sigma, the graduate student honor society, together with the S.A. group Gamers Guild, this fun-filled night not only provides some friendly competition and plenty of prizes for the area's gaming community, it's also raising money for the American Cancer Society. The event will include videos games, card and board games and carnival games.

The video game triathlon will include "Mario Kart" for the Wii, "Call of Duty Black Ops" for Xbox 360 and "Soul Calibur III" for PlayStation II. The card game portion will include traditional card games and "Uno," and the board games will include "Yahtzee," "Apples to Apples" and others. Ring toss, softball throw and skee ball will be among the carnival games.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners with an assortment of merchandise ranging from gaming equipment, Relay for Life T-shirts and Pizza Hut gift cards.

Tau Sigma is actively involved with the American Cancer Society and has an established Relay for Life team that holds many fundraising events throughout the academic school year to raise funds for the organization. The Tau Sigma Relay for Life team currently holds the number-one spot on campus and has raised over $1,700 this year thus far.

"Every donation made to the American Cancer Society helps at least one person, and seeing how many people are either directly or indirectly affected by cancer it touches a lot of people's hearts to support such a great cause," explained Tau Sigma Treasurer Jen Gilman.

The Game-a-thon is open to the public for an admission price of $5. And while Chuck E. Cheese  tokens are not accepted... it does includes pizza and snacks, and the proceeds go to a terrific cause.
