Department of Biology faculty member Dr. W. Theodore Lee’s sabbatical is centered on health care in Chautauqua County; as his interests lie in access to health care, the quality of health care and challenges relating to health care in the community.

Dr. Lee noted that Chautauqua County fares poorly in key health care areas compared to other counties in the New York; thus he plans to focus his scholarship on health care issues during the sabbatical and beyond.

He sees the work as having an important service component that can benefit the community and students, and during the sabbatical Lee will meet with local public health officials and health care professionals to identify critical areas of need in the county. Lee will also work with them to find solutions in these areas and hopes that the impact of the sabbatical will be coordinated efforts between him as a Fredonia representative and local health care workers.

Through his sabbatical, Lee hopes to begin work that will help recruit former, current and future Fredonia students to return to the county as physicians and other health care professionals.
