SUNY Fredonia’s Hillel organization will celebrate Jewish History Month with opening ceremonies on Tuesday, April 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Horizon Room in the Williams Center.

Hillel, the Jewish Student Union and part of the Center of Multicultural Affairs office on campus, will celebrate April as Jewish History Month in order to honor Judaism and its history.

The Opening Ceremony event will take place on the last day of Passover at sundown, which marks the conclusion of the Passover holiday. Those who observe Passover cannot consume bread during the holiday, and Jewish holidays begin and end at sundown. In accordance, Hillel will be serving New York City Bagels with fruit at 6:30 p.m. to give observers the opportunity to indulge in the celebrations.

Dr. Bruce Simon, professor within the English Department, will be speaking about "Jewish Humor." Other topics include learning about Jewish culture, diversity, and some brief history of Judaism.

The event is free and open to the campus and community. However, a ticket is required for admission, which can be obtained at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center.
