Steele Hall will be anything but quiet or dark this Saturday evening into Sunday morning, as several hundred SUNY Fredonia students stage a “Relay for Life” to benefit the American Cancer Society.

As of Monday afternoon, more than 425 students had signed up as either individuals or as teams for the fundraiser, which gets underway at 6 p.m. and goes until Sunday at 6 a.m. There were 54 teams on board.

SUNY Fredonia’s event, part of Colleges Against Cancer, experienced the most significant growth out of all Western New York college relays last year, raising over $36,000, according to Stacie Waddell, special events director with the American Cancer Society in Buffalo.
