Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance Professor James Ivey will direct “Women on Fire,” Irene O'Garden’s collection of 20 emotionally charged monologues that explore the breadth of women’s issues through humor and wisdom, during a four-week run in April at the Park School in Buffalo and an additional performance at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House on May 7.
The five-member cast includes alumna Christina Rausa, who earned a B.A. in Theatre at Fredonia in 1978, along with Mary Kate O’Connell, Sandra Gilliam, Sara Kow-Falcone and Elizabeth Oddy. Cody Jones, a 2015 Fredonia graduate who earned a B.F.A in Acting, is stage manager of the production.
The original off-Broadway production of “Women on Fire” featured a solo performance by Judith Ivey, Dr. Ivey’s sister, at the Cherry Lane Studio Theater in New York City in 2003. A workshop performance of “Women on Fire,” also starring Ms. Ivey, was given at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House before its New York City premiere.
Performances of the O’Connell & Company production will be presented Thursday through Sunday, April 7 through 10, 14 through 17, 21 through 24 and April 28 through May 1 at the Park School, 4625 Harlem Road, Snyder. “Women on Fire” will return to 1891 Fredonia Opera house for a Saturday, May 7, 7:30 p.m. performance.
