Junior Leslie Bianco has won a Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship for her outstanding effort as a teacher candidate in the College of Education. She was awarded a $500 check on Nov. 30 to help pay for her books and supplies.

Delta Kappa Gamma is a professional society of women educators that recognizes teacher candidates from Fredonia and Jamestown Community College. The international organization has a local chapter in Jamestown. Dr. Kathleen Magiera from the Department and Instruction nominated Ms. Bianco for the scholarship based on her work with students with disabilities both on and off campus.

Bianco is majoring in Childhood Inclusive Education leading to certification in special education and general education. She received her associates’ degree from Jamestown Community College but took a break after having her daughter. She hails from Falconer and has had two Delta Kappa Gamma members as instructors at Jamestown Community College (Dr. Mary Kay Szwejbka and Professor Renee Funke).

Dr. Magiera noted that despite her many family obligations, Bianco has been a wonderful example to her peers of how to manage many responsibilities and that her “can do” attitude is evident every day at Fredonia.
