Piatek lived in the Honor's House in Hemingway Hall during her freshman and sophomore years and held both treasurer and president positions on its hall council. She was involved in many hall council activities and Honors Program activities. This year she lives in the University Village Townhouses and still continues to mentor new Honors Program students as well as plans programs for the Honors Program.

Piatek also participates in Teacher Education Club, Figure Skating Club and American Sign Language Club. She is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society and Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society, and volunteers at Vacation Bible School at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church and at the Campus and Community Children’s Center in Fredonia.

When asked about her favorite thing about Fredonia, Piatek said, “My favorite thing about Fredonia is how no matter what you major in or where you go on campus, there is a sense of community and everyone is welcome and feels like they are important.”

In regard to her future, Kaitlyn said that her goal for the year is to enjoy the time that she has with her friends and learn as much as she can before student teaching next fall. Her goal for after graduation is to become a kindergarten teacher and eventually get her master’s degree in education.

The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community.
