Telling the story – in print, online and over the airwaves – will be the focus of the annual conference sponsored by the Fredonia student chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists, on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All presentations will be given in Williams Center Room S204-D.

The keynote address, which will explore how storytelling is changing at The Buffalo News, will be delivered at noon by Buffalo News columnist Sean Kirst, ’81, and Bruce Andriatch, assistant managing editor/features at the News. Mr. Kirst has brought back a very personal style of writing to the newspaper, while Mr. Andriatch has been quietly re-shaping its features section (arts, entertainment and lifestyle) into a more modern – and often digital-first – future.

Don Paul, meteorologist at WKBW-TV, will explore the issue of scientific illiteracy   a trend which he believes mirrors broader social conditions, at 11 a.m. He will examine whether there is a fundamental lack of knowledge about science and the scientific method in today’s culture.

Alumnus John Matey, executive producer of the WGRZ-TV’s morning show “Daybreak,” will explain how a newscast is made during a 10 a.m. session.
