SUNY Fredonia senior Rachel R. Foltz has been named the recipient of the 2011 Lanford Presidential Prize from the Oscar and Esther Lanford Endowment of the Fredonia College Foundation.

Ms. Foltz will receive the award from President Dennis L. Hefner at the university’s afternoon Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14. The award — generously created and endowed by the late President Emeritus Oscar E. Lanford and Mrs. Lanford —recognizes a member of the graduating class who has exhibited balanced achievement and exemplifies Fredonia’s ideals.

Criteria for selection include a high degree of personal honesty and integrity, substantial intellectual growth and achievement during years at the university, and exemplary service to SUNY Fredonia.

Ms. Foltz, from Baltimore, Ohio, will graduate summa cum laude with concurrent degrees including a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies/Music Business.

She has also received the 2011 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence, the Robert E. Coon Recognition Award, the Marc Cohen Student Association Award, the Fredonia Golden Key Scholarship, and was named to the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, the Golden Key International Honour Society, and the Psi Chi International Honor Society in psychology.

Ms. Foltz was also selected for and completed the university’s Honors Program. Some of her many campus activities include serving as a College Ambassador, resident assistant, research assistant in the Department of Psychology, vice president of the Spectrum Entertainment Board, Orientation leader, president and treasurer of the Psychology Club, treasurer of the Golden Key International Honour Society, president of the Alma Mater Society and Alumni Hall Council, and was a member of the Senior Challenge Committee, Global Student Ambassadors, Music Industry Club, Residence Hall Association, Sound Services and the Resident Assistant Advisory Board.

After graduation, Ms. Foltz plans to attend The Ohio State University for a Master's of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs, with a graduate assistantship in Admissions Counseling.
