Fredonia senior women's basketball player Jacque Law (Lime Lake/Pioneer) has been named as a 2018 Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
A Fredonia team captain, Law was selected in a vote of the 10 SUNYAC sports information directors for her combination of athletic and academic success -- a 3.69 grade-point average as a biology major combined along with her selection to the SUNYAC All-Conference Third Team. She averaged 12 points and 5.6 rebounds per game and led the Blue Devils with 80 assists and 125 free throws, shooting 78 percent from the line. She established Blue Devil career records for free throw attempts (468) and makes (361) and ranks eighth all-time with 225 assists and ninth in scoring at 1,083 points.
Off the court, Law was a two-year member of Fredonia's Student-Athlete Advisory Council as well as a seven-time Dean's List recipient. She participated in several events and associations such as the Great Lakes Beach Sweep, the Vets' Walk-a-Thon, her team's Seneca Nation of Indians outreach program, and its Play4Kay & Goal4TheGold fundraisers. She is a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
The SUNYAC 2018 Winter awards are part of the conference's ongoing effort to recognize student-athletes for their efforts in their sport and in the classroom. Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award recipients must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a 3.30 overall GPA, must serve their teams as either a starter or significant reserve, and have reached at least their sophomore year.
