SUNY Fredonia will host two poets, Dr. Ross Gay and Mr. Patrick Rosal, as part of the Mary Louise White Visiting Writers Series. The poetry reading will be held in room 202 in McEwen Hall on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.

Dr. Gay is a member of the Creative Writing faculty at Indiana University’s and the author of the poetry collection called, “Against Which.” His work has appeared in various publications such Atlanta Review, American Poetry Review, and the Harvard Review. He has been a Bread Loaf Tuition Scholar and is a Cave Canem fellow, a community dedicated to the expression of African-American poetry. Dr. Gay has been with Indiana University’s College of Arts and Sciences since 2007 and also teaches in the low-residency program at New England College. He received his doctorate in American Literature from Temple University.

Mr. Rosal is the author of award-winning poetry collections, “My American Kundiman,” which won the Association of Asian American Studies 2006 Book Award in Poetry and 2007 Global Filipino Literary Award, and “Uprock Headspin Scramble and Dive,” which won the Members' Choice Award from the Asian American Writers' Workshop. He holds a master’s of fine arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College and is currently among the faculty of Rutgers University. His work has been in such publications as the Harvard Review, Crab Orchard Review, North American Review, The Literary Review, Black Renaissance Noire, and the Beacon Best. He has also served as visiting writer at Penn State Altoona, Centre College, and the University of Texas, Austin and taught for several years at Bloomfield College.
