Kazuhiro Yoshida from IDEA Consultants, Inc. supporting Ministry of Environment Japan (MOEJ) will hold a workshop on microplastics in the ocean and has invited Dr. Sherri “Sam” Mason of the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences to share her experiences, especially in practical works in the field.
The two-day international workshop with scientists and experts is slated for Dec. 10 and 11 in Tokyo.
The tentative agenda for the event includes discussion of the current status of monitoring procedures for microplastics in the ocean; challenges and solutions for the standardization and harmonization of monitoring procedures for microplastics in the ocean; a case study on a supposed research cruise project gathering surface distribution data of microplastics in the ocean with international cooperation; and developing a road map for the standardization and harmonization of monitoring procedure for microplastics in the ocean.
