The fall 2009 conference of the Seaway Section of the Mathematical Association of America will be held at SUNY Fredonia on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24. The Seaway Section is a regional section of the Mathematical Association of America that includes most of Upstate New York and parts of Ontario, Canada. It was founded at Colgate University in 1940 and today has over 1,100 members.
The conference will begin Friday evening at the Clarion Hotel in Dunkirk where there will be a banquet followed by a presentation. This year’s presentation will be given by Dr. Gary Towsley and Dr. Jeff Johannes, both of SUNY Geneseo, entitled “An ‘Outrageously’ Concise History of Calculus.” Presentations on Saturday morning will be given by Dan Teague of North Carolina State University and Gino Biondini of State University of New York at Buffalo. The Randolph Lecture will be given by Sam Vandervelde of St. Lawrence University.
A lunch will be provided on Saturday for $12 prior to the afternoon sessions. The afternoon sessions will take place in Fenton Hall and include presentations by faculty, undergraduates and graduate students.
The registration fee is $15 and is open to the general public. Registration may be done in advance by submitting the registration. Participants may register the evening of the banquet, Friday October 23, 2009 from 6-7 p.m. or on Saturday morning from 8-11 a.m. in Fenton Hall as well.
