Mo Willems’ ‘Pigeon’ returns in SUNY Fredonia family series
Family-oriented fun is set to take center stage at the State University at Fredonia when Mo Willems’ Pigeon returns to Rockefeller Arts Center.
The Kaleidoscope Family Series will present “Pigeon Party!” on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre.
The feathers flew when the Pigeon took the Marvel stage in 2007 for “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” ─ now he’s back and ready to throw a party kids and parents will never forget.
Squeezing all the fun of the first three Pigeon books into one raucous production, this lively show for children ages four and up is full of fun, feathers, laughter and excitement. It features original music and lots of audience participation.
The interactive production will get audience members involved in answering questions like: Should the Pigeon driving the bus? Will he share the hotdog? When the Bus Driver wants Pigeon to go to bed, will you let him stay up late?
“Pigeon Party!” is approximately one hour in length. It will be staged by the Big Wooden Horse Theatre Company of Great Britain, which specializes in creating high quality theater for younger audiences. The theater company strives to both entertain and inform young people with its productions.
The play is based on the Pigeon books by Willems, a six-time Emmy Award winner for his writing on the children’s classic “Sesame Street.” He earned Caldecott Awards for “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” and “Knuffle Bunny Too: a Case of Mistaken Identity.” In addition to picture books, Willems created the “Elephant and Piggie” books, a series of “easy readers,” which were awarded the Theodor Seuss Geisel Medal in 2008 and 2009.
