Morgan Hartley, a junior Music Education major from Baldwinsville who has been engaged in a wide range of campus programs and activities, has been named Student of the Month for November by the Office of Residence Life.
As business manager of the Student Opera Theatre Association, Hartley manages the group’s budget. She served as assistant business manager in 2013-2014, organizing events such as Karaoke Night, and participated in Safe Halloween in 2013 and 2014 and was a lead in Opera Scenes this year.
Hartley’s involvement in Friends Across Boards includes Fall Sweep in 2013 and the Belize service project, an Applebee’s fundraiser and Relay for Life, all in 2014. Within Residence Hall Council, Hartley currently serves social chair and participated in Buffalo News Kids Day and Cruise Around the World, both this year.
Her musical affiliations include memberships in the American Choral Directors Association and National Association for Music Education.
Hartley has also played intramural basketball and softball.
At Fredonia, the Fairport High School graduate has found a community atmosphere that provides students with the tools they need to find success. Hartley, who has a 3.78 GPA and been named to the Dean’s List four times, has received a Fredonia Scholar Award, a Herbert K. and Isabel C. Liebich four-year scholarship and a Fredonia Honors Scholarship.
“I am so grateful to attend a school where I feel welcomed and supported throughout all aspects of my education. Fredonia has provided me with the opportunities to become a better person and a better colleague,” Hartley said.
Her career goal is to become a music teacher. “I want to help students learn how to create, perform and express themselves through music. Whether or not people consider themselves musicians, everyone is involved with music in one way or another,” she believes. “I hope to give people the opportunity for lifelong music making.”
Hartley, also a student worker at LoGrasso Health Center, was nominated for the award that recognizes students who are well rounded, excel in academics and make positive contributions to the campus and community, by Terry Kuhn, a clerk at LoGrasso.
