Heather McEntarfer, assistant professor of English, has written "Navigating Gender and Sexuality in the Classroom: Narrative Insights from Students and Educators," part of the Routledge Research in Education Series, that addresses the need to prepare teacher candidates to support LGBTQ youth and create more gender-inclusive school spaces.
Drawing on data from a teacher education course focused on gender and sexuality, the book describes how teacher candidates responded to specific issues, including heteronormativity, gender identity, conflicts between religion and sexuality and teacher agency in the face of constraints.
