Iceland is known as the “land of fire and ice” because there are many active volcanoes and icebergs located on the island. The country is known for its visually appealing nature and for its geology. There is volcanic rock, shrubbery, the Northern Lights and geysers located throughout the country – giving visitors and inhabitants the best variety of views.

The program’s main focus is on renewable energy and sustainability. Students who attend the program will be studying the geology of Iceland and will be able to immerse themselves into the environment. The students will also have the opportunity to learn about the culture and experience all aspects of Icelandic living. The program will offer a mixture of lectures and field trips throughout the country. In addition, students will learn about the Icelandic language, history and mythology. In between lectures, students will have the opportunity to explore Iceland by hiking glaciers, relaxing in hot springs, going horseback riding and even experience whale and Puffin watching tours.
