Winners of the SUNY Fredonia Outstanding Administrative Service Awards were recently recognized at a luncheon in their honor. Tracy Bennett, SUNY Fredonia vice president for Administration, cited the five award recipients for their outstanding performance.
The awards are to acknowledge exemplary performance as noted by students, faculty and staff in five areas: custodial services, professional trades, secretarial/clerical, Faculty Student Association non-management, and professional staff from the university or the Faculty Student Association.
“These awards,” explained Vice President Bennett, “recognize employees in the administrative division who show an exemplary service attitude, creativity and resourcefulness in improving services, willingness to work as part of a team, and a positive attitude in dealing with students, faculty and other staff.”

The Professional Service Award was presented to Karen Porpiglia of Dunkirk. Karen has been employed at SUNY Fredonia since June 1984. She began as the College Bursar and is currently the Associate Vice President for Administration. She resides in Dunkirk.
The Professional Trades Award was presented to Steven Siragusa from Facilities Services. Steven has been employed since January 1978 at SUNY Fredonia. He began as an Assistant Stationary Engineer and currently works as a Supervising Plumber and Steamfitter. He resides in Fredonia.
The Custodial Services Award was presented to Lee Szalkowski from Facilities Services. Lee has been employed at SUNY Fredonia since May 2002 and works as a cleaner in Igoe Hall. He is a resident of Dunkirk.
The Secretarial/Clerical Award was presented to Lois Valentine. Lois has been employed at SUNY Fredonia since October 1998. She began as a Mail and Supply Clerk and is currently a Calculations Clerk II. She is a resident of Forestville.
The Faculty Student Association Award was presented to John Skubis. John has been employed at SUNY Fredonia since August 1974. He began as an Assistant Service Worker and is currently a Senior Stock Clerk in the commissary. He resides in Dunkirk.
The Outstanding Administrative Service Awards have been presented each year since 2003 to acknowledge the significant contributions administrative support staff make to the students, faculty and staff at SUNY Fredonia.
