Dr. Paul Blanchet, assistant professor of Communication Disorders & Sciences, presented the poster, “Knowledge and Awareness of the Vocal Mechanism and Care Among University Voice Majors,” that was the culmination of research conducted by CDS graduate student Allison Miller at the recent SUNY/CUNY Graduate Research that Matters Exposition in Albany.

The study, performed for Miller’s M.S. Directed Study, tracked voice majors’ knowledge and awareness of the function and care of the vocal mechanism between their freshman and senior years. Sixty-seven voice majors in the School of Music participated in knowledge surveys. The study supported the hypothesis that academic training in voice that includes coursework increases student knowledge levels, especially in laryngeal anatomy and physiology.

Graduate student research conducted across SUNY campuses was highlighted at the exposition held in the Legislative Office Building.
