Fredonia’s Pi Mu Epsilon chapter, New York Pi, will host Dr. Paul Fishback, past president of the national mathematics honor society, who will give the talk, “The Least-Squares Property of the Lanczos Derivative,” on Wednesday, March 4, at 4:30 p.m., at Fenton Hall Room 108.

Dr. Fishback is a member of the Department of Mathematics at Grand Valley State University and a past recipient of the GVSU Alumni Association’s Outstanding Educator Award. He received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin and has taught at GVSU since 1993.

The talk is free and open to the public.

New York Pi, the 111th Pi Mu Epsilon chapter, was founded in 1965 at Fredonia and is the 16th oldest chapter in New York State and second oldest among chapters at SUNY schools. Pi Mu Epsilon is dedicated to the promotion of mathematics and recognition of students who successfully pursue mathematical understanding.
