Alumnus Tony Caramia

Pianist Tony Caramia will present “Richard Rodgers—The Sound of His Music,” a multi-media solo jazz piano tribute featuring 21 songs from 17 shows, on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The concert is free and all are welcome.

Accompanied by a PowerPoint show with 139 dazzling images of sheet music covers, performers, original Playbill and Broadway posters, pianist Caramia will perform arrangements and transcriptions of such favorites as "The Blue Room," "My Heart Stood Still," "The Carousel Waltz," "My Romance," "My Funny Valentine" and 13 other jazz improvisations.

A 1973 graduate of the Fredonia School of Music, Caramia is Professor of Piano at the Eastman School of Music, where he directs Piano Pedagogy Studies and coordimates the Class Piano Program.  In September of 2007, he participated in the dedication concert of the new “Sorel” Steinway at SUNY Fredonia, in honor of his former teacher, Miss Claudette Sorel.

His latest solo piano compositions were compiled in Jazz Moods,  just published by the Hal Leonard Publishing Corporation, for whom he is also a Keyboard Clinician.

2006 saw the release of his solo jazz piano CD, called Tribute, which features the music of Ellington, McPartland, Brubeck, as well as original compositions.
