President Dennis L. Hefner issued an end-of-the-year memorandum to the campus community, announcing several pieces of news:
- Proposed 2007-08 Campus Budget. Copies of the proposed 2007-08 Consolidated Operating Budget book have been distributed throughout the campus. The budget passed by the legislature and signed by Governor Spitzer is virtually identical to the one contained in the budget book, so the allocations in the book will be implemented.
- Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence. Please join me in congratulating five members of our campus community who were chosen to receive the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in the following categories: Reneta Barneva, Professor of Computer Science, Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities; Marianne B. Eimer, Librarian, Excellence in Librarianship; Keary J. Howard, Associate Professor of Mathematics Education, Excellence in Teaching; Christina S. Jarvis, Associate Professor of English, Excellence in Teaching; Michele Notte, Director of Youngerman Center, Excellence in Professional Service.
- Two Significant Student Accomplishments. Two major student academic competitive achievements deserve special recognition: (1) SUNY Fredonia’s SIFE team returned yesterday from the national competition, where it earned the second runner-up trophy, which is on display in the Office of the President through next Friday, and (2) Speech Pathology and Audiology students, competing against students from all New York public and private universities, won the Outstanding Undergraduate Student award, the Outstanding Graduate Student award, and the Honorable Mention award, thereby sweeping the top three awards given within the state. Congratulations to both programs, and special thanks to the faculty mentors who worked with their students.
