Dr. Tai Yi of the School of Business’s sabbatical plans include publications and research. He is currently working on three scholarly papers. The paper, “Stock Splits and Cash Flows: A New Test of the Signaling Hypothesis,” co-authored with Dr. Julie Fitzpatrick at Fredonia, was conditionally accepted in December 2017. The paper has been revised for submission at the end of January to The BRC Academy Journal of Business.

Another paper, “U.S. Consumption Risk, Foreign Equity and the Euro: Evidence from the G-7,” coauthored with K. Kopecky at Temple University and S. Yoo at Belmont University, was submitted on Jan. 15 to the 2018 Financial Management Association International annual meeting. The trio is revising the paper to construct an additional time-series of sample predictions to rigorously test whether the introduction of the Euro influenced the consumption risks of foreign investments made by U.S. investors in equity instruments issued by the G-7 countries.

Dr. Yi is also working on the paper, “Corporate Social Responsibility, Media Freedom, and Firm Value,” with K. Chang at University of South Florida. He noted that prior research documents a positive relationship between corporate social responsibility and firm value in business-to-consumer industries or industries with high advertising expenditures, but that most of these studies are limited to developed countries that have large advertising markets and full media freedom. Using a sample of 45 countries, the authors are examining whether the relationship still holds in countries where media freedom is not fully established and/or advertising markets are relatively small. The paper will be submitted to the 2018 Business Research Consortium of Western New York and the 2018 World Conference on Business and Management.
