The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced that the Defensive Athlete of the Week in women's soccer is first-year student Marissa Quimby.
A first-year student from Ballston Lake, Quimby posted back-to-back clean sheets over St. John Fisher and Brockport, her second and third shutouts of the season. She made a combined nine saves in those two games, then made 10 stops in a 3-0 loss to nationally ranked Geneseo. She's allowed two or fewer goals in five her eight games this season and will carry 1.87 goals against average into next weeks play.
Geneseo sophomore forward Domenica Piccoli from East Northport, named Offensive Athlete of the Week, scored three goals as the Knights earned a pair of victories in their first two conference games of the year. Piccoli scored one of Geneseo's five goals against last year's conference champion SUNY Buffalo State as the Knights ran past the Bengals, 5-0. The forward netted two more goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 defeat of Fredonia on Saturday as well. Piccoli is tied for the Knights' team lead in goals and is third in the SUNYAC with five.
