In the next Red Balloon Book Dialogue, colleagues will examine The Wisdom of Crowds by James Surowiecki on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 12:30 p.m. in the Horizon Room of the Wiliams Center.

This book by a New Yorker staff writer challenges the ideas that experts always know best and includes examples from a range of disciplines. Although it does not focus on higher education, The Wisdom of Crowds has implications for social media, as well as the creation and dissemination of knowledge. All are welcome!

You need not have read this book to participate! The chapters of the book will be summarized briefly by John Kijinski (Dean, College of Arts and Sciences) and Randy Gadikian (Director of Library Services), who will then lead small-group discussions of the ideas Surowiecki presents.

This dialogue is the second of six Red Balloon Book Dialogues sponsored by the Vice President for Academic Affairs this year. As part of the national AASCU Red Balloon project, SUNY Fredonia is thinking about ways that higher education is changing in the face of shifting demographics, resource challenges, and advancements in technology. Each dialogue will use this summary and discussion format, so each semester—with a very small investment of your time—you’ll have a chance to hear about three big ideas affecting higher education.

Desserts and beverages will be provided. If this is your lunch hour, you’re welcome to bring your lunch from home or the nearby Centre Point Lounge.
