Colleges Against Cancer’s annual 12-hour fundraiser, Relay For Life, is slated for Saturday, April 18 from 4 p.m., until Sunday, April 19, at 4 a.m., in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.

The event is being promoted as a fun-filled, Disney themed night to help cancer patients know that “When you wish upon a star, the cure for cancer isn’t far.”

Relay for Life, a national event and one of Fredonia’s most widely participated events, strives to make the fight for cancer patients easier and more affordable as well as to honor cancer survivors.

All of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society (ACS), a national organization that conducts cancer research and assists cancer patients. Each Relay for Life event is special to its community, but the movement's true power lies in the combined commitment of thousands of participants, volunteers, and supporters to help the ACS save lives from cancer.

Students, faculty and staff create different teams to participate. With a member from each team walking the track at all times, the night will be filled with activities, games, and performances for the participating teams to enjoy.

To register, visit http://www.relayforlife.org/SUNYFredoniany to either create a team or join one. The registration fee is $20 as a jump start donation for each group to reach its fundraising goal.

In 2014, over $36,000 was raised to give to ACS. In the midst of planning for the upcoming event, over $11,000 has already been raised in registration fees and donations from registered teams.

Colleges Against Cancer works directly with the ACS to hold events that raise awareness for cancer and show their support to those affected by cancer in some way.
