Spearheaded by today’s 18-29 year olds–the “First Global” generation–Americans are becoming more internationalist, consensus-oriented, tolerant, and embracing more sustainable lifestyles, policies and choices, as Americans move beyond old divides to form a new consensus that will shape the nation for decades to come. |
John Zogby, founder of the global polling and market research firm Zogby International and one of the most widely regarded and sought after authorities on the democratic pulse of America and the world, will deliver the 2011 Constitution Week keynote address at SUNY Fredonia on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
The event is free, open to the public, and will include a question-and-answer session. A book signing of his New York Times bestseller, The Way We’ll Be: The Zogby Report on the Transformation of the American Dream, will follow in the lobby.
Dr. David Rankin, chair of the Department of Political Science and director of the Fredonia Academic Community Engagement (FACE) Center arranged for the campus visit and talk. “John Zogby offers incredible insight and expertise with wide relevance across discipline and topic as we consider the pulse of America and the world 10 years after 9/11, move firmly into the 2012 presidential election cycle, seek to develop sustainable business opportunities, and explore how to survey, understand and build on our own unique perspectives and resources across campus and in the surrounding region,” Dr. Rankin noted.
Zogby is heralded for his groundbreaking work and spot-on election predictions to new interactive polling techniques reshaping the industry. The Washington Post has proclaimed, “All hail Zogby, the maverick predictor who beat us all.” He has been praised as “the most accurate pollster” (Seattle Post Intelligencer, Cleveland Plain Dealer, USA Today), “pioneering” (Albany Times Union), and “the pace setter in the polling business” (New York Post).
According to former “NBC Nightly News” anchor Tom Brokaw, “John Zogby always knows the pulse of America,” and Howard Fineman of Newsweek raves, “No one can predict the future, but if anyone can come close it is John Zogby, whose attention to the details of public sentiment have long made him a leader in the field of understanding America, and the world, from the ground up.”
Sought out for his wide expertise, Zogby is a regular contributor to network television news broadcasts and has been a frequent guest on “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” MSNBC, Fox News, the BBC, the CBC, and the “Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” He is a weekly columnist for Forbes, provides a weekly report card and assessment of President Obama for U.S. News and World Report, and contributes regularly to numerous other publications, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
Zogby has polled, researched and consulted for a wide range of media, business, government and groups, and has lent his expertise to think-tanks across the globe. Media clients have included Reuters, NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, C-SPAN, Fox News, Knight-Ridder Newspapers, Gannett News Service, Houston Chronicle, Miami Herald, Atlanta Journal Constitution, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cincinnati Post, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, nearly every daily newspaper in New York, as well as television stations and newspapers throughout the world. Numerous other clients include Coca Cola, Microsoft, CISCO Systems, MCI, MetLife, and the United States Census Bureau.
He now serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Insights Officer for IBOPE Zogby International, a non-partisan public opinion, research, and business solutions firm with experience working in more than 70 countries. He remains headquartered in Utica, N.Y., and has offices in Washington, D.C., and Miami. While Zogby is a familiar name for clients across the globe, he remains at the forefront of scientific polling in countries including Iraq and throughout the Middle East, often providing crucial insight into the earliest democratic voices and perspectives arising in many parts of the world.
In The Way We’ll Be, Zogby describes an American dream in transition rapidly being redefined by four meta-movements: living with limits as consumers and citizens; embracing diversity of views and ways of life; looking inward to find spiritual comfort; and demanding authenticity from the media, our leaders, and leading institutions. Understanding this emerging reality will be key for leaders in all fields who want to reach audiences that are more media-savvy and more technologically enabled than ever before, individuals in search of rewarding and fulfilling careers in tomorrow’s growth fields, politicians and CEOs looking to marry policies and practices to the rising demand for social responsibility, and anyone who wants to market to the emerging new American consensus.
John Zogby’s campus visit has been made possible through the support and co-sponsorship of the Carnahan-Jackson Humanities Fund, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, SUNY Fredonia Convocation Committee, Department of Political Science, School of Business, and FACE Center.
