Jacqueline Hebert
The Office of Residence Life began the Student of the Month program in 2003 to recognize the success and dedication in both the classroom and the community of SUNY Fredonia students who live on campus. The honored students are selected by a committee comprised of administrative employees as well as residence hall directors.
In October, the Student of the Month was Gregory Kuhn of Fredonia, a Computer Information Systems major who sits on several boards and is active in the Biology Club.
In November, the Student of the Month was Jacqueline Hebert of Springville, an English Education major who has excelled academically, consistently made the Dean's List, and works as a Resident Assistant.
Gregory Kuhn
Gregory Kuhn, of Fredonia, N.Y., has been named Student of the Month for October by Residence Life. Gregory was nominated for this award by Mary Lou DeWolf, the Secretary at the Daniel A. Reed Library, because of his attitude and passion for Fredonia.
“Greg is a caring and determined young man who always wears a smile,” DeWolf shared. “He is always pleasant and willing to help both at work here as well as off campus.” Gregory has always gone “above and beyond,” even offering to mentor DeWolf’s granddaughter during her high school years.
Gregory is a senior Computer Information Systems major, due to graduate in December of 2010. He is very involved on campus as a member of the Reed Library Advisory Board, the SUNY Fredonia Judicial board, and the SUNY Fredonia Biology Club. Gregory has also participated as a SUNY Fredonia Orientation Volunteer. Greg works in the Technology Area of Reed library, dealing with the computers and electronic devices under the direction of Kathleen Sacco.
Upon completion of his degree, Gregory intends to pursue his first goal of earning a Masters in Computer Information Science.
When asked how he felt about SUNY Fredonia, Gregory had plenty of great things to say. “As a Fredonia native I believe that this is one of the best places to have grown up. Our campus offers a rich history of success which is demonstrated by students and staff alike, and makes it an enjoyable place to study. I enjoy all the activities that we as Fredonia students have available to be involved in and would hope that other students can enjoy what I have enjoyed during my stay at SUNY Fredonia.”
The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community.

Jacqueline Hebert, a senior English-Adolescence Education major recognized for her work ethic, engaging sense of humor and outgoing personality, has been named Student of the Month for November by Residence Life.
“Jackie has shown a strong work ethic that includes knowing which tasks need to be completed first in the office,” said Theresa “Terry” McAdoo, the secretary of Residence Life who nominated Hebert for the award. Hebert handles each task in her life with professionalism and poise, McAdoo explained, while her personality and sense of humor has been an asset to this office and will be greatly missed by everyone.
Hebert, of Springville, N.Y., will student teach in the spring semester and then graduate in May.
Despite maintaining a very busy schedule outside of the classroom, Hebert has compiled a 3.8 GPA and been named to the Dean’s List nearly every semester. She has worked four semesters as a resident assistant, six semesters as a catering employee and three semesters as a student leader. Hebert is also a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honors Society, and served formerly as its secretary.
Ask Hebert what she cherishes most about SUNY Fredonia and she’ll point to the strong sense of community intertwined between students and staff. It’s very easy to develop a support system among them, she said. “All of the faculty and staff members I’ve interacted with have truly cared about my success and are very supportive of my efforts in multiple areas of interest.”
Following graduation, Hebert plans to pursue a Master’s degree in English as well as an additional certification in Art Education.
