Entries are being accepted for the 27th annual Rosa Parks Scholarship Contest, which gives all Fredonia students an opportunity to voice their opinions or views on a wide variety of topics that include but are not limited to cultural heritage, social justice or the celebration of one’s identity.
Three individual scholarships valued at $350 will be awarded. Winning entries are typically those seen as provocative and original, take full advantage of the medium selected and have a strong emotional or intellectual impact.
Written entries – to be typewritten, double-spaced and not exceed 10 pages – can take the form of non-fiction, research, fiction, short story, poetry and essay. Other formats include multimedia, film or video, dance, musical composition, performance art, painting, comedy/drama, sculpture and photography.
All two-dimensional and three-dimensional work must be submitted in its original form to the Center for Multicultural Affairs at Thompson Hall Room E125. Performance and multimedia presentations must be submitted electronically on video and not exceed 10 minutes. All entrants must agree to have their names publicly announced.
A typewritten statement reflecting the content of the work must accompany each entry. For more information or to submit an entry, contact Richard Schumacher, CMA graduate assistant, at E125 Thompson Hall.
All contest entries must be received at the CMA office by Monday, Feb. 29, at 4 p.m. Participation in the contest is free.
The awards ceremony and presentation of winning selections will be held on March 16, 4 p.m., in the Williams Center Horizon Room.
