Sarah Ficcaro Student of the Month

Sarah Ficarro, of Owego, N.Y., has been named Student of the Month for September at SUNY Fredonia by the Residence Life Office. Sarah was nominated for this award by faculty member John Crawford, who teaches in the department of history and is assistant coach of swimming and diving. 

Sarah, a member of the Communication Disorders and Science Society and Golden Key Honor Society, is a Communications Disorders and Sciences major. Sarah is also a member of the FSU Swimming and Diving Team. She has been a Blue Devil diver since her freshman year. Coach Crawford says “Sarah has been one of the best ambassadors for SUNY Fredonia on a local and in a national setting.” Sarah is also a six time NCAA All-American diver.

Sarah has twice been the silver medalist at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Coach also added, “In all three years of college, Sarah has been designated Scholar All-American in recognition of her academic excellence and her athletic achievements.”

She currently holds the SUNY Fredonia record in the one meter diving event. Coach Crawford stated that Sarah’s list of accomplishments are numerous. “She has been named Diver of the SUNYAC Championship in each of her three years at Fredonia, she is a four time SUNY Conference Champion.”

Along with Sarah’s diving accolades, she has been an exceptional student. She currently carries a 3.84 GPA and has consistently carried a high GPA throughout her three years at SUNY Fredonia.

When asked about her favorite things at Fredonia, Sarah wrote “The pool, my team, and my friends.”
