Koichi Fujino, who teaches American literature and culture as an associate professor at Seinan Gakuin University in Fukuoka, Japan, will present two lectures at SUNY Fredonia on the novelist Haruki Murakamiat the invitation of the English Department. The talks, made possible by the Mary Louise White Fund of the Fredonia College Foundation, are free open to the public.

Professor Fujino's first presentation, “Renovation of Innovation: Haruki Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore and the Shrek Series,” will be given Thursday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Fenton Hall Room 105. He will introduce Japanese literature by comparing the novel, Kafka on the Shore, written in 2005, with the Shrek movie series.

“Haruki Murakami and Ryunosuke Akutagawa: An Introduction to Japanese Literature,” is the title of his second lecture, to be given Friday, March 7, at 3 p.m. in Fenton Hall Room 105.

A William Faulkner specialist, Mr. Fujino also teaches Japanese literature to international students in workshops and summer programs, and is currently working on his doctorate at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is a 1997 graduate of the graduate school at Waseda University.
