Sophomore Julia Schreier (Lockport/Starpoint) tied Fredonia's school record during the first day of competition at SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Brockport.
Her clearance of 3.50 meters was identical to the mark teammate Olivia Kurbs (Lockport/Lockport) set at the same meet in 2015. The quartet of Schreier, Kurbs, Kristen Sawyer (Lockport/Lockport) and Mikayla Capestrani (Jamestown/Jamestown) gathered 20.5 team points as the remaining three finished with identical scores of 3.35 meters.
The men's and women's distance medley relay teams grabbed 10 points each after back-to-back wins on the track.
The team of Stephanie Wojnowski (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge), Samantha Ruszczyk (Hamburg/Hamburg), Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield), and Hannah Kurbs (Lockport/Lockport) crossed the finish line almost 10 seconds faster than the next finisher at 12:26.71. The men's team of Collin Mulcahy (Batavia/Batavia), Chase Towse (East Northport/Northport), Nick Watson (Rochester, N.Y./Rush Henrietta), and Zakk Hess (Newark, N.Y.?North Rose-Wolcott).immediately followed with a win of their own, crossing at 10.12.02.
After day one of SUNYAC competition, the women's team stood in third place (41.5 points), while the men were in fourth (26.5 points).
Women's highlights
Brittany Feldman (Jamestown/Southwestern) took third place running in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash (58.11). She also finished fifth in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash (26.08).
Anneliese Bienko (Clarence/Clarence) finished second in the shot put with a personal best throw of 12.07 meters. Brianne Paganello (Batavia/Batavia) took seventh at 11.53 meters, and Rachel Williams (Lockport/Lockport) was eighth at 11.45 meters.
Men's highlights
Kyle Collins (Suffern/Suffern) finished second in the 5,000-meter run (15.03.15).
Justyn Haines (Albion/Albioin) tied for third in the pole vault, clearing 4.50 meters.
Rocky Caparro (Staten Island/Susan E. Wagner) finished sixth in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 13.87 meters.
